H.A.W.P. - SR:TT

"I don't know about all of you, but I'm pretty addicted to the "Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin'?" (HAWP) series over on GameTrailers. If you've never seen it, and like video game-based humor, I recommend you watch a few episodes. At Volition, we've been lucky enough to be featured before with Red Faction: Guerrilla a few years back, but today, it's time for Saints Row: The Third to hit the spotlight.

In this episode, Anthony attempts to compete with an unexpected amount of flawless logic from Ash as the duo nominate the best games of 2011! Watch below or click here if it doesn't load."

Season Pass Coming to an End

"I was going to put up an image of Total Recall here, where Arnold was dressed up as the older woman and got caught in the "two weeks" speech glitch, and you may ask "Why?", but I swear it's completely relevant. The reason being that in just... two weeks... from today, the Season Pass DLC for Saints Row: The Third will no longer be available for sale. For those not aware, the SR:TT Season Pass will earn you the following at a 15% discount compared to purchasing each pack separately:"

- Genkibowl VII
- Gangstas In Space
- The Trouble With Clones
- Nyte Blayde Pack

"This is your final reminder before it's no longer available, so if you want to save a few bucks instead of purchasing each pack on its own, this is a quick way to add four DLC packs to your inventory. Only two weeks remain until this deal vanishes though!"~Saintsrow.com

Introducing Heyday Decker Sneakers!

"We're proud to announce today the second partnership with Heyday Footwear, bringing our community members the first chance opportunity to pre-order the next pair of Super Shifts, this time based on another gang outside of the Third Street Saints, the Deckers."

"We've decided to hit the virtual world, and chose The Deckers as they bring their bleeding edge style to the world of cyber crime and illicit thrills. Heyday Footwear brings them out of the game and on to your feet with the latest version of our limited edition, officially licensed Saints Row: The Third Super Shift sneaker."

"The upper features insane blue python embossed leather which has multiple shades of blue and metallic flecks and snake scale details much like an actual python. Each pair is unique and may look slightly different than the photos shown here but every pair is AMAZING. Black patent leather is found on the eye stay, heel, and mid-foot velcro strap. The black patent leather tongue has 2 large Deckers star logo embossed and printed in blue and pink. The removable and reversible Super Strap features a 2 color, embossed Saints Row: The Third logo on black patent leather and the Deckers skull logo printed in black on the white patent leather reverse side. Here's a video with Darin Hager, CEO of Heyday, explaining the background design that went into this new design."

"These shoes also come with both pink and black laces, so you can choose which accent color you want. I have my own pair of the Purple Super Shifts, and they are ridiculously comfortable. They helped me get through 8 hour plus days worth of standing at various events, and I still wear them around town, showing my third street pride."

"Full details on pre-order can be found RIGHT HERE, over on the Heyday Footwear website."

The Trouble With Clones DLC!

Johnny Gat is Back.

"Science just got weird, thanks to Third Street Saints super fan and cloning enthusiast Jimmy Torbitson. Refusing to believe that his hero Johnny Gat died fighting the Syndicate, Torbitson meticulously acquired Gat’s DNA in order to clone the Saints chief lieutenant and bring him back to life. But this is Saints Row, and as always, something goes horribly, horribly wrong. It doesn’t help that Torbitson got a C in high school chemistry..."

"Now Gat’s twisted clone is on the loose, terrorizing Steelport and its well-heeled citizenry. But just as science unleashed an abomination upon Steelport, it will also be its savior. The new formula of the Saints Flow energy drink, part ginseng root, part caffeine, and part secret sauce now endows you with super powers that just happen to be super enough to take down a giant evil clone. Saints Flow remains illegal in most countries, and prohibited in California."

"So drink up, bear down, and strap it on."

"The Trouble With Clones pack will be available starting Tuesday, March 20th (later in the week for specific region/platform combinations) on XBL, PSN, Steam, and OnLive for $6.99 (560 MS Points). This pack is included for free to all Season Pass holders."~Saintsrow.com

Vote For Volition - Part 2

"Earlier in the week, we asked for your votes in Round 2 of The Escapist Magazine's March Mayhem Developer Showdown, which pits 64 of the world's top game development studios up against each other in a battle royale to see who can get more votes over the other."

"Thankfully, many of you took up the call, and helped us claim a victory over Capcom in Round 2! We've progressed into Round 3, and all of the same rules apply from before."

"Voting for us (Volition - in the South Bracket) only takes a few minutes, and you can sign up on their site using your Facebook or Twitter name if you want to save time. To vote, all you need to is CLICK HERE, then select the big yellow "CLICK HERE TO BEGIN" button in the middle of the bracket, and they will walk you through the entire process."

"This round is open until March 17th at 5PM PST, so don't wait!"~Saintsrow.com

SR:TT's Mysterious 8th Voice

"Continuing this week of GDC articles (employees from Voliton were part of more than a dozen talks), we're going to focus on tacos Talk-O, which is our own custom voice editor made from scratch, just for Saints Row: The Third. We're not going to get into the nitty-gritty, but specifically about part of the game that almost made it in, becoming our 8th player voice, instead of the current seven available to all."

"In SR:TT, the final game combines over 82,000 voice lines from the smallest NPC, to fully voiced main characters like Killbane. Ariel Gross, Senior Audio Designer, gave a talk last week about one particular part of the game that had to be cut, which would end up being our 8th player voice."

"Before I spill the beans on what number eight would be, think in your head what could've made sense before being cut. What sort of style would fit in? Luckily, the folks from GiantBomb were in the audience and have covered how it went during Ariel's talk below."

"[The mysterious eight voice? A completely auto-tuned player."

"When Gross said this, the entire audience groaned in disappointment."

"I know," said Gross. "I know."

"Like I said, the whole audience, which was mostly developers, was audibly upset."

"It was a really painful cut, but it was the right decision in terms of scope," he said.

"So there you have it. No auto-tuned voice for the whole game, but we're pretty confident that Zimos was able to carry the torch for auto-tuning throughout the game.]"~Saintsrow.com

SR:TT Was Originally About...

"Did you know that Saints Row: The Third was originally about an undercover agent, played by you, as you infiltrated the Third Street Saints? Based on that premise alone, SR:TT could've been an entirely different game, but as Scott Phillips -- Design Director on SR:TT -- details in his talk during last week's Game Developers Conference (GDC), something didn't feel right."

"The team was confused, lacking confidence in the vision. They needed a solution soon as possible.

At some point early on, brainstorming meetings began to pivot on a new design mantra: "Embrace the Crazy; Fun Trumps All." "Over the top" became the buzzword of the project. At team presentations, they'd review big ideas, so the team had to answer why or why not something fit. They also got out of the office with movie outings, seeing movies like A-Team that matched the tone they wanted. The tone began to coalesce."

"As many of our fans of Saints Row 2 are aware, the player character in that game was essentially a sociopath, and Scott had this to say about the change from SR2 to SR:TT."

"'One of the lessons coming out of Saints Row 2 was I didn't want the player to be a ****,' said Phillips. That job was reserved for the dildo bat."

"To read more about what changed early in development, you can view the entire article over at TheVerge."~Saintsrow.com

Vote For Volition!

"Citizens of Steelport, how many of you are aware that Volition, Inc. was the development studio behind Saints Row: The Third, and all previous Saints Row titles? One of my personal goals, as many forum-goers know, is to ensure our fans know who we are, and to spell our name right (it's not Violation, or Volotion, or anything like that)."

"The reason I'm bringing all this up is that we've progressed into Round 2 of The Escapist Magazine's March Mayhem Developer Showdown, which pits 64 of the world's top game development studios up against each other in a battle royale to see who can get more votes over the other. Did I also mention that you can win some crazy prizes just for voting, like a brand new gaming PC?"

"The more votes we get, the farther we can go, so help out Volition to advance as deep into the tournament as possible! Every single vote counts, since a few of these match-ups last year were decided by less than 10 votes! This round is open until March 14th at 5PM PST, so don't wait!"~Saintsrow.com

The Nut Shot

"There's a lot of videos about Saints Row: The Third on the internet, and we appreciate each and everyone. One of the new features in the game that's shown up a lot is our various testicular assault animations attached to each and every weapon in the game. Luckily, that caught Rooster Teeth's eye in their new video below, where they salute their 10 favorite video game nut shots."

Interview with Producer, Greg Donovan

"It's been nearly four months since Saints Row: The Third was finally released to the masses. We've seen millions of you pick up the game, enjoy the new city of Steelport, and cause mayhem through each mission, activity, and diversion. It's fantastic seeing your reactions, but have you ever wanted to know a little bit more behind the scenes with regard to our own reaction once the game has been out for a while?"

"Over at GameFanatics, they've done just that, and sat down with SR:TT's Producer, Greg Donovan, for an in-depth interview
about all things Saints Row. Yes, the same "donovan" that you may recognize as being a certain vehicle found roaming the streets. Within the interview, topics are covered such as the Penetrator, upcoming DLC, and even some thoughts about Johnny Gat. Here's a small excerpt from one of the questions:"

"GameFanatics: The weapons are incredible and, aside from dropkicking pedestrians or doing the “superman dat hoe” into a vehicle, they’re one of the most fun elements of the game. One of our Twitter followers want to know why it’s not possible to dual-wield penetrators"

"Volition: Being able to dual-wield penetrators would have been a blast. Honestly, that’s an idea we didn’t entertain and I’m making a note to improve at asking our fans for suggested features. Dual-wielding penetrators is definitely something we can keep in mind for future games."

Your Name In Lights!

"If you're not aware, Facebook has provided us with the ability to turn on their new "Timeline" feature for our official Saints Row Facebook page. While much of the content found on there starts here on this site, it has presented us with a new opportunity to show off images from our community, better known as the "cover image". For those not aware, this is the large header image at the top of your Facebook page, and our goal is to insert a new user-submitted screenshot up there each week as we move forward."

"For example, this week's winner was Juanjo Villaboa with the image you see below. So if you would like to submit an image, there's a few ways to be eligible."

"1. Upload your image to our Facebook wall.
2. Add the image as a comment to this post.
3. Provide a link to your image in question."

"For reference, the image above is 849x313, so your image needs to meet or exceed that resolution in order to be eligible. Don't worry if it's too big, since I'll do all of the necessary cropping to make it fit. Each week we'll pick a new image and announce it on our Facebook page, so get cracking!"~Saintsrow.com
